With some Lutherans claiming to be conservative, but leaning toward an un-Lutheran understanding of “evangelical,” must we beware whither this can lead? Historically, pietistic movements have led to confessional, moral, and doctrinal fog.
An article in FrontPageMagazine notes such a move among “evangelicals.” Mark Tooley, a Methodist, has some interesting observations. The implications for Lutherans are even more serious, since we are not “evangelical” in its distorted modern meaning. The more we become “evangelical” rather than Evangelical-Lutheran, the more we will become enticed by the siren song of the Left whose refrain is: “Be relevant.”
